Intel-powered instance benefits

Intel architecture delivers the power for compute, networking, and storage in the agentic AI era. Run AI inference alongside other workloads on Intel Xeon CPU instances, accelerated by built-in Intel® Advanced Matrix Extensions (Intel® AMX) for AI/ML performance.

General purpose workloads (C4, N4)

C4 is Google Cloud's most performant general-purpose VM, powered by Intel® Xeon® 6 processors and 5th Gen Intel® Xeon® processors. With single-core turbo frequencies up to 4.2 GHz, the highest in Google Cloud, C4 delivers industry-leading performance and consistency for web and app serving, databases, video streaming, data analytics, and CPU-based ML inference.

N4 is built for flexibility, efficiency, and cost optimization, powered by 5th Gen Intel Xeon processors. N4 is ideal for dev/test, batch processing, microservices, and medium-traffic production workloads where price-performance is the priority.

Both C4 and N4 support Intel AMX  to accelerate demanding AI workloads, and are powered by Google's Titanium, which takes advantage of the Intel Infrastructure Processing Unit (IPU).

Network-optimized workloads (C4N, M4N in preview

C4N, Google Cloud's newest network-optimized VM, is purpose-built for high-volume, network-intensive applications. Powered by Intel Xeon 6 processors, C4N delivers up to 95 million packets per second and 400 Gbps VM-to-VM bandwidth, addressing the I/O demands of agentic AI workloads, high-traffic network appliances, and real-time data pipelines.

M4N, currently in preview, supports memory-bound workloads with up to 26.5 GB of RAM per vCPU, reducing Oracle database TCO by over 20% when paired with Hyperdisk Extreme.

Compute-intensive workloads (H3)

H3 machines provide the highest performance per core, optimized for high performance computing (HPC), game servers, and latency-sensitive API serving. Powered by 4th Gen Intel® Xeon® Scalable processors, H3 is offered as full machines with SMT disabled for low-latency, high-bandwidth VM-to-VM networking. 

Ultra-high memory (M3, M2, M1).

Memory-optimized workloads (M4, X4, X5 coming soon)

M4 is Google Cloud's most performant memory-optimized VM under 6TB of memory, powered by 5th Gen Intel Xeon processors, ideal for high-memory databases like SAP HANA.

X4 offers up to 32TB of memory for a single instance, powered by 4th Gen Intel® Xeon® Scalable processors, built for extra-large SAP HANA systems and the most demanding high-performance computing workloads. 

X5 pushes Google Cloud's memory ceiling to 48TB on a single node, powered by Intel® Xeon® 6 processors, built for the largest SAP HANA and RISE with SAP deployments that need to scale without major application redesigns. (coming soon).

Google Cloud VMware Engine (VE2, VE1)

Easily lift and shift your VMware-based applications to Google Cloud without changes to your apps, tools, or processes.  

Google Cloud VMware Engine (VE2) is running on 3rd Gen Intel Xeon Scalable processors providing up to 2048 GB of memory with DDR4 RAM, all-NVMe drives. VE2 nodes will also support large cluster sizes of 32 nodes and 100+ node private clouds.

Storage-optimized workloads (Z3, and Z4M in preview)

Z3 is Google Cloud's storage-optimized VM, offering up to 72TB of local SSD, powered by 4th Gen Intel Xeon processors, perfect for scale-out analytics, flash-optimized databases, and media streaming.

Z4M, currently planned for preview, will be Google Cloud's largest storage-dense VM yet, with up to 168 TiB of local SSD per node, 400 Gbps networking, and bare-metal support for large-scale data platforms and AI pipelines.
