The State of Play on ODF in MassachusettsFriday January 27, 2006By: Andy Updegrove This article gathers information based on interviews with a variety of knowledgeable sources on the critical issues and milestones that could affect the rollout of ODF in Massachusetts. It covers the current status and expected action or due dates of the legislation intended to strip the Information Technology Division (ITD) of control of IT policy, a State Auditor's cost analysis evaluation, deadlines for accommodation of disability needs, permanent hiring of the State CIO, and ISO adoption of ODF. It concludes, "While there are significant events to watch for over the next year, the only two which, in my judgment, represent a significant impediment to a timely effective date for ODF on January 1, 2007 are these: making adequate progress on meeting accessibility needs, and confirmation by the State Auditor that the ITD's cost analysis was sound.
