Announcing The TAPR Open Hardware License

The TAPR Open Hardware License ("OHL") provides a framework for hardware projects that is similar to the one used for Open Source software. This isn't as straight-forward as it seems because legal concepts that work well for software (such as copyright and copyleft) don't neatly fit when dealing with hardware products and the documentation used to create them. N4XI X1W-2 Kit The 1-Wire® outdoor humidity and temperature sensor kit was designed to be used with the TAPR T-238 APRS Weather Station or N4XI's Linux based WXN weather server over APRS. It should work with any other 1-Wire® based software as the design is based on the original Dallas Semiconductor 1-Wire® Weather station. The humidity sensor with the kit is an improved version over the original part. It has proven stable with good accuracy over a wide range of temperatures and conditions. Read more

Election Results

Eric Ellison, AA4SW, and Scott Cowling, WA2DFI, have been elected as new directors of TAPR. John Koster, W9DDD, has been re-elected as a director.

TAPR VNA The TAPR VNA is a low-cost Vector Network Analyzer (VNA) that operates from 200 kHz to 100 MHz, and connects to a personal computer using a USB 1.1 interface. The VNA is one of the more useful pieces of test equipment for designers and experimenters. The VNA allows measuring the forward and reverse gain and phase response of a circuit, and the input and output reflection properties (complex impedance). The VNA is used to measure and adjust filters, coaxial cables, amplifiers, antenna input impedance vs. frequency, just to name a few. The July/August 2004 QEX article discusses the design of the measurement hardware, control processor software on the instrument itself, and the software on a personal computer that controls and displays the measurements.
